“Buganda Expo – Connect with 700,000+ at Uganda’s Buganda Expo 2024!”
The Buganda Expo has seen a steady rise in exhibitors and revellers since its inception in 2008. What’s On Kampala sat down with Eric Omondi, a business consultant of the Buganda Expo to discuss everything you need to know about this upcoming event.
What’s On Kampala:
The Buganda Expo has seen a steady rise in Exhibitors and Revellers since its inception in 2008.-What Inspired the creation of the Expo, and how has it evolved over the years?
Eric:
Buganda Kingdom is endowed with so many treasures in the areas of Tourism, Culture and Trade. This strongly influenced the idea of the Expo, with the earlier Expos focusing more on Culture and Tourism. Because we wanted to introduce the public to the opportunities within the Kingdom, and also far and wide, we decided to include other aspects to the expo. And this has seen the Expo grow from 150 exhibitors to over 500 exhibitors as per the last one that happened in 2022.
What’s On Kampala:
The Expo’s tagline highlights “Juicy Benefits”’ Can you elaborate on the on the specific benefits that businesses and attendees can expect from participating in the Expo?
Eric:
This year’s theme is “Connecting Global Communities”. For both exhibitors and traders, this is an opportunity to showcase what they have to the Ugandan and global audience, network with other exhibitors and also learn new things. To the attendees, this platform offers many opportunities that include, knowing what is trending in the market, being able to access different products and services under one roof, and also just being able to learn. Available will also be schools exhibiting.
What’s On Kampala:
With a significant increase in exhibitors anticipated this year, what improvements or new features has the Buganda Expo implemented to accommodate the larger scale?
Eric:
First and foremost, the exhibition ground is bigger. This will enable us to create different villages, such as Agricultural Village, Tourism Village, Regional Exhibitors Village, Corporate Village etc. This makes it easy for attendees to compare notes and prices easily. Secondly, given that we expect over 700,000 attendees, the amenities have increased. We are building new toilets/washrooms, having more caterers to take care of everyone.
What’s On Kampala:
What are the key objectives of The Buganda Expo? Is it focused on promoting Ugandan businesses, fostering regional trade or something else entirely?
Eric:
From this year’s theme. All the above are a possibility. In this modern world, people just need to find a common place with reasons to meet and the rest is history. For this reason, we have exhibitors welcome from across the globe. This is one big market and learning platform.
What’s On Kampala:
Beyond Product sales, does the expo offer any networking or educational opportunities for business owners or attendees?
Eric:
There will be alot to learn. Farmers are bringing their new methods, those who practice alternative medicine will be allowed, and we have partners such as Uganda Wildlife Education Centre that will offer some insight on wildlife conservation among others.
What’s On Kampala:
Why should business owners, especially those new to the Ugandan market consider participating in the Buganda Expo?
Eric:
Anyone looking for an opportunity to expose themselves, their products or technology, this opportunity gives you a perfect platform.
What’s On Kampala:
The Lubiri Expo Grounds seems like a fitting location steeped in history. Did the location play a role in n the Expo’s conception, and how does it enhance the Expo’s experience?
Eric:
The Lubiri ground is a royal ground and is very much The Heritage of The Buganda Kingdom. It is both historical and a cultural gem. If you want to know one of the things that united the Kingdom, it is the Lubiri Grounds.
What’s On Kampala:
What are some of the highlights that attendees can look forward to at the upcoming Expo?
Eric:
UWEC Village with all the wild animals, cultural villages that include Karamoja, Kigezi and Busoga village, the helicopter experience, and of course live band and artists performing everyday
What’s On Kampala:
What is the vision for the Buganda Expo?

Using the main attraction, that is Buganda Kingdom and its culture, the vision is to use that, and the people of Buganda to attract the global audience. We want to see exhibitors from all over the world
