For four decades, the Ndere Cultural Dance Troupe has captivated audiences worldwide with its mesmerizing performances, showcasing Uganda’s rich cultural heritage. Established in 1984, the Ndere Cultural Centre served as the troupe’s home and a cultural hub, offering a unique blend of tradition and modern hospitality. However, a looming threat casts a dark shadow over the centre’s future. Due to an unpaid loan, Ndere Cultural Centre is on the brink of closure, jeopardizing its invaluable contribution to Ugandan culture and the livelihoods of hundreds of individuals.
More than just a stage for weekly performances, Ndere Cultural Centre has become a cornerstone of Ugandan society. For over two decades, it has offered a unique blend of tradition and modern hospitality, attracting both locals and tourists alike. The centre’s impact extends far beyond its cultural significance, providing employment opportunities for over 200 people from across the country.
Beyond its cultural and economic importance, Ndere Cultural Centre plays a vital role in education and environmental conservation. The Ndere Troupe Centre supports aspiring dancers, providing them with education and opportunities to showcase their talents. The centre’s lush green spaces serve as a haven for birds, attracting researchers and birdwatchers from around the world.
The imminent auction of Ndere Cultural Centre due to an unpaid loan poses a grave threat to its existence. If the centre is sold, it would not only result in job losses but also irreparable damage to Uganda’s cultural heritage. The centre’s founder, Stephen Rwangyezi, has dedicated his life to promoting Ugandan culture. Now that his legacy is at risk of being lost forever, it is imperative that we come together to save Ndere.
By supporting this iconic institution, we can preserve a vital part of Uganda’s identity and ensure that future generations can continue to experience the beauty and richness of its culture. We urge the government to intervene and save Ndere Cultural Centre by paying off the loan. This is not just a business, but a national treasure that deserves protection.
Join us in calling on the government to:
– Bail out Ndere Cultural Centre
– Provide support to local businesses and cultural institutions
– Preserve Uganda’s cultural heritage
Let us come together to save Ndere and ensure its continued contribution to Ugandan culture and society.
